Jalin MoA dengan FKH-USK guna Perkuat Riset dan Inovasi

Institute of Tropical Disease Universitas Airlangga (ITD UNAIR) dan Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan Universitas Syiah Kuala  menjalin kerja sama untuk memperkuat riset dan inovasi. Dekan FKH drh. Teuku Reza Ferasyi, M.Sc. PhD dalam sambutannya mengatakan, pihaknya siap merintis dan menjaga kerjasama dengan ITD UNAIR. MoA tersebut menjadi awal dan pintu masuk bagi tumbuh kembang bersama. “UNAIR telah menjadi kampus rujukan bagi banyak perguruan tinggi di Indonesia, termasuk untuk dokter hewan. Kerja sama dengan USK nantinya beragam, paling utama adalah kolaborasi penelitian dan pengembangan laboratorium riset veteriner dan zoonosis,” kata Dekan FKH drh Teuku Reza Ferasyi di Banda Aceh, Kamis. “Lima kampus di Indonesia yang masuk top kampus dunia, termasuk UNAIR mendapatkan kepercayaan dari kementerian untuk mengembangkan diri menjadi For Excellent, dengan dana kurang lebih Rp200 Miliar dengan peruntukannya 80 persen membeli alat,” kata Prof Fedik. Sementara itu, Wakil Rektor Bidang Perencanaan, Kemitraan, dan Bisnis USK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Taufiq S., M.Eng., IPU memaparkan, ada banyak potensi yang USK miliki untuk kolaborasi kerjasama dengan UNAIR, dan kampus yang lain.

2nd International Conference on Infectious and Tropical Disease 2023 (ICITD 2023)

This activity collaborated with the Association of Indonesian Clinical Microbiology Specialist Doctors (PAMKI). Apart from that, also with the Research Center on Global Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Disease (RC-GERID) UNAIR on November 18–19, 2023. On one occasion, the head of the Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD) explained that there are several clinical symptoms felt by children with rotavirus. Generally, children who are positive for rotavirus will experience severe diarrhea. This is caused by the presence of rotavirus group A (RVA) in the child’s body. Severe diarrhea causes children to experience severe dehydration. Children who test positive for rotavirus are susceptible to nausea due to infections and disorders of the digestive tract. “Rotavirus is a problem that must be handled immediately and well. “Remember, rotavirus can cause the death of children in Indonesia,” said Prof. Inge. Prof. Fedik explained in his presentation the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin vaccine, which was one of the first TB vaccines used in 1921. Prof. Fedik also added that, currently, this vaccine is the only tuberculosis vaccine that has been licensed for use globally. Prof. Fedik said in his presentation, “Provides adequate protection, including Mycobacterium ulcerans and Mycobacterium non-tuberculosis infections, for up to 20 years with care in how it is administered.”

LPT UNAIR Gelar Pengabdian Masyarakat Turunkan Angka DBD di Surabaya

Lembaga Penyakit Tropis (LPT) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) sukses menggelar program pengabdian masyarakat (pengmas). Pengmas bertajuk Application of Mobile sensing in Kader Surabaya Hebat (KSH) to Suppress Dengue fever Case in Surabaya itu berlangsung pada Sabtu (21/10/202) di Gedung LPT Kampus MERR-C UNAIR. Pengmas tersebut merupakan program hibah pendanaan dari World University Association for Community Development (WUACD). Tidak sendiri, LPT UNAIR menggandeng sejumlah pihak. Antara lain Dinas Kesehatan (Dinkes) Kota Surabaya, University of Malaya, serta Politeknik Negeri Jember. Fokus dalam pengmas ini memberikan penyuluhan dan pelatihan untuk para Kader Surabaya Hebat (KSH) dan puskesmas di seluruh Surabaya. Tujuannya adalah untuk menurunkan angka demam berdarah (DBD) di Surabaya. Selain itu, pengmas ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan KSH dalam memberantas vektor penyebab DBD.

Visit of students from Putra University Malaysia

6 September 2023, the Institute of Tropical Disease received a visit from students from Putra University, Malaysia. This was very welcomed by the Secretary of the Institute of Tropical Disease, Prof. Fedik Abdul Rantam. This time, they wanted to know what laboratories were available and also the research achievements that had been carried out. The introduction to the laboratory is carried out directly by the ITD secretary while walking along with the requested explanation. carried out from the designated BSL-3 room to the laboratory above. The hope of this visit is that it can attract overseas students to follow research developments at ITD in the future.

Visit of Cambodian and Brazilian Foreign Student Representatives to ITD

30 August 2023, the Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD) Airlangga University received a visit from foreign students from Cambodia and Brazil. This representative was brought by a delegation of doctors from Dr. Soetomo. This visit was welcomed by the Chair of the ITD institution, Prof. Maria Inge Lusida, and staff. This Foreign student is very interested in exploring the activities at ITD, especially research activities in the field of leprosy. Therefore the leprosy lab researchers provide information and provide opportunities to take part in several activities which these foreign students can later participate in. it is hoped that this activity can support their health knowledge, especially in the field of leprosy and be developed in their respective regions.

BRIN Representative Visit to ITD

It is an honor that the Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD) Universitas Airlangga received a visit from representatives of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). This representative was welcomed by Prof. Maria Inge Lusida as Chair of the institution and the leadership (ITD). During this visit, representatives from BRIN provided an explanation of activities and several things that could be done in collaboration with research units in Indonesia such as ITD. As for future collaboration, it is hoped that it will be able to increase renewable research, especially in the health sector so that the results of the research can be implemented either for policy or to handle things that are happening in Indonesia.

Workshop Basic Animal Cell Culture Day 3

The agenda on the third day of Basic Animal Cell Culture and its Application in Biomedical Research Workshop by RCTVD ITD Universitas Airlangga continued with Scratch assay, MTT assay, and surface marker detection using immunofluorescence (Immunocytochemistry). The participants were able to do it personally with the protocol that had been made accompanied by the instructor. After the workshop session, the event continued with a discussion and evaluation session with Prof. Dr. Fedik Abdul Rantam, DVM, and drh. Suryo Kuncojakti, M.Vet., Ph.D. as well as testimonials by participants. The closing session of the workshop was done with a photo session with the participants, presenters, and instructors.

Workshop Animal Basic Cell Culture Day 2

The agenda on the second day of Basic Animal Cell Culture and its Application in Biomedical Research Workshop by RCTVD ITD Universitas Airlangga continued with the evaluation of cell growth isolated on the previous day followed by Cryopreservation, cell splitting and passaging and preparation seeding cells for MTT assay. The participants were able to do it personally with the protocol that had been made with the instructor’s assistance. On this second day, the event ended at 04.30 pm

Workshop Animal Basic Cell Culture Day 1

Research Center for Vaccine Technology and Development (RCTVD) Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD) Universitas Airlangga Surabaya proudly presents the workshop Basic Animal Cell Culture and its Application in Biomedical Research. This event was held on 23-25 August 2023 at Ruang Pertemuan Lantai 2 Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD) Universitas Airlangga. The seminar session was carried out on 23 August 2023 with a hybrid setting followed by 12 participants (2 participants via Zoom meeting). The workshop session continued after the seminar session was completed on the first day until the third day. The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Fedik Abdul Rantam, DVM, as secretary of the Institute of Tropical Disease as well as the first speaker in this event. The first topic was presented by Prof. Dr. Fedik Abdul Rantam, DVM about Animal Cell Culture. The second topic presented by drh. Suryo Kuncorojakti, M.Vet., Ph.D about Basic Techniques for Cells Characterization. The event continued with a workshop session accompanied by three instructors. The workshop agenda on the first day included the isolation of adipose cells from rats. The participants were invited to carry out adipose cell isolation personally with the protocol that had been accompanied by the instructor. The first day of the event lasted until 08.30 pm and the participants were still very enthusiastic until the first day of the event was over.
