NPMRD is an Airlangga University research center that focused on research about drug discovery and medicine development from natural resources. It was developed to support the research collaboration between Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, and Kobe University, Japan, granted by JICA/JST SATREPS (2010-2014). In the effort to find a medicine, c-NPMRD combines the best science and technology in pharmacy, chemistry, biology, and medical fields, supported by reliable equipment and staff.

• Conducting research and development of efficacy, safety, and quality guaranteed medicine from the natural product.
• Build partnerships between academia, industry, and government as a scientific product commercialization effort that impacts human health.
• Provide opportunities for the highly qualified next generation in drug development in the future.
NPMRD conducted many research collaborations with some national and international institutions, for example, cooperation with Kobe University and the National Institute of Biomedical Innovation (NIBIO), Japan. The research focused on identifying anti HCV substances and granted by JICA/JST SATREPS (2010-2014), with Lakesmil (Military Health Institution), Indonesia. The research was conducted a clinical trial of cempedak capsule product as an alternative, complementary drug for malaria prophylaxis at Nanga Badau, Kalimantan (2014) and with PT. Kimia Farma (Persero) Tbk, Indonesia. The research focuses on developing the sambiloto fraction as an antimalarial product and granted by the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education (2015-2017).
